Rotary Grace – O Lord we stand for
every race, from every creed from every place; to give our thanks and say our
grace for food, for health. May Peace embrace the world through Rotary.
Last Week – June 18, 2009
Before
Stephen Thiele gave us an update on the work of the Rotary Youth Impact Awards
committee, he posed a few Rotary quiz questions to the club. The results were
not as close as would be expected.
We then
heard that club members Mark Dawber, Willis Rudy and Stephen met with Lifetime
Achievement Award recipient Mr. Zeke O’Connor and Stephen reported that Mr.
O’Connor would be taking a bronze sponsorship table and would try to secure
Sears Canada and Tilley Endurables as two other new bronze sponsors.
Stephen
also reported that Mars Canada Inc. had already confirmed that it would donate
two gift baskets to the silent auction.
He urged
all club members to contact potential corporate sponsors, silent auction
donators now, so that the Club could get a good head start in building toward
another great fundraising dinner event.
The
committee was looking at printing receipts for ticket sales so that Club
members could approach friends now and sell tickets early as well. Furthermore,
the committee had prepared a list of new potential corporate sponsors that they
would be approaching on a “Corporate Sponsorship Day”.
All of the
talk about the Rotary Youth Impact Awards prompted John Hastings to announce
that he would be taking a bronze level sponsorship for the event!
Following Stephen’s update Club members provided some other good ideas to help promote the event and the Club. Ron Manfield suggested that we distribute some club information when potential sponsors are approached and that club representatives be able to speak thoroughly about the event and the club.
A
“Frequently Asked Questions” sheet has been produced in the past to assist
committee members and Stephen indicated that this would again be updated.
50/50 Draw

Stevenson right away for an appointment. We want this issued for the new year.
Sponsorship Kit
By now, we
should all have received our sponsorship kits. Read through it thoroughly, and
follow the instructions. “How much more easier could it be. The Sponsorships
are the backbone of our Rotary Youth Impact Awards project. Make sure that you
contribute. It’s that easy.
Next Meeting July 2, 2009
Our first
meeting of the New Year, when our President-elect Ron Manfield takes over as
President for what is bound to be a challenging year.
Spoke Joke
A teenage
girl came downstairs dressed to go to the mall in short shorts and a spaghetti
string top. Seeing her attire, her father objected, and a fight broke out.
Her mother
stepped in and reminded her husband that when they were young she had dressed
the same way.
“Yeah!” he
said
“Well, if you remember right, I had something to say about that, too!”
“Yes
,dear,” she said, “you did. You asked me for my phone number!”
Today’s Quote
What
irritates us most about others is often what we dislike most about ourselves.
Opportunity Knocks
Rotarians
have almost unlimited opportunities to perform vocational service. Most
Rotarians will go to work approximately 250 days a year. How many other people
will the typical Rotarian contact each day? Twenty–five, fifty, a hundred or
more? How many others will be influenced by daily actions or decisions?
Hundreds, thousands or more? Opportunities abound for Rotarians to apply the
principle of “Service Above Self” in the business world. Through concerted
vocational service activities, Rotarians can be influential in raising ethical
standards, improving business relations and elevating confidence and trust in
business transactions.
Assisting the Spoke Editor
The club
bulletin is your bulletin and the bulletin editor needs your aid. In order to
keep the bulletin informative and we hope interesting, he needs information
from you.
Every
member is a potential assistant to the editor: one member might have ideas for
improving the publications appearance; another could offer some exciting last
minute news.
Each committee chairman needs to keep the bulletin editor up-to-date regarding committee activities.
