Rotary Grace – O Lord, we stand for every race, for every
creed from every place, to give our thanks and say our grace for food, for
health. May peace embrace the world through Rotary?
Last Week – July 15, 2004
A
very sincere and interesting talk from Carol-Ann Hamilton. Carol was introduced
to us by Stephen Thiele, who told us that Carol is President of Spirit
Unlimited, a Canadian coaching, consulting and facilitation organization.. The
title of her talk was “The Guide to Soul Inspiring Leadership.
Soul
inspiring leadership is about daily
kindness, personal leadership, and good business.
Did
you leave a trail of kindness behind you yesterday. Carol asked us to think
about it. If we were to engage with people by conducting all our interactions
from that perspective, would we not be able to call ours a life well-lived. The
possibilities are all-encompassing.
We
were asked, how many of us enjoy being treated with kindness by those around us.
Have we considered how much leadership is about being and not just doing.
As
Robin Sharma so eloquently wrote, “When we are born, we cry and others rejoice.
Live your life in such a way that when you die, others cry and you rejoice.”
Carol
asked us to continually ask people:
What
happened to the six most important words: I admit that I was wrong.
The
five most important words: You did a great job.
The
four most important: What do you think.
The
three most important: Could you please.
The
two most important: Thank you!.
The
most important word: WE.
The
least important word: I.
Remember… people will forget a lot of what you tell
them, but they will never forget how you made them feel in their heart.
Will you leave a trail of kindness behind you today?
The choice is up to you.

Spoke Joke:
Hospital
regulations require a wheelchair for
patients being discharged. However, while working as a student nurse, I
found one elderly gentleman – already dressed and sitting on the bed with a
suitcase at his feet – who insisted he didn’t need any help to leave the
hospital. After a chat about rules being rules, he reluctantly let me wheel him
to the elevator. On the way down I asked him if his wife was meeting him.
“I
don’t know,” he said. “She’s still upstairs in the bathroom changing out of her
hospital gown.”
