ECI Interact Club improves the lives of girls internationally through Days For Girls

RTW sponsors the ECI Interact Club and provides financial and practical support to Days For Girls.

Over 30 Interact students of ECI volunteered to stay after classes to fabricate kits for the local Toronto chapter of the international Days for Girls organization. Thousands of kits are sent to schools in SE Asia and Africa where it is common for young girls to miss out on several days of important schooling each month due to menstruation.

After a brief introduction, Maria Pollieri, Leader for the Toronto Chapter of "Days for Girls" outlined how the assembly process would proceed.

Maria brought along 2 special sewing/serging machines that do a quick job of serging and trimming large pieces of fabric into nicely tailored components.

Elizabeth gave some extra tips. The fabric moves at a quick speed requiring careful control and a steady hand.  Nuha and Ikrham soon mastered the process.
Thirty student volunteers took a brief break for this group photo, having already completed many kits.
Interact volunteers cutting large sheets of colourful fabrics into long strips for final assembly.
Many hands make light work! Everyone was having a great time, with lots of laughter!
